Palazzo Ghio is the main historical palace in the town, named after its first owner, a noble Genoese who began its construction in the second half of the 15th century, with its completion by heirs in 1859.
Due to its unique structure, it has served various public functions, including being an office of the Bank of Italy during the malaria epidemic in the Grosseto plain, leading to the relocation of all public administrations to Scansano.
The palace encompasses two activities within its structure, operating a restaurant in the historic cellars.
Upstairs, there is a kind of bistro where activities such as aperitifs, tastings, and the sale of artisanal and vintage products take place.
The restaurant was opened in 1995. The equipment includes:
a Zanussi stainless steel kitchen complete with all equipment and facilities, along with respective restroom and anteroom for employees.
The dining area is equipped with counters, tables, chairs, refrigerators, shelving, and display cases for equipment and glasses.
It also has a storage room and bathrooms, one of which is accessible to people with disabilities.
The restaurant has a capacity for 60 people.
Internally, the restaurant is connected to the upper floor by historical stairs.
The upper floor was opened in 2002 and includes:
a spacious open hall that allows for conferences, a large entrance area with a refrigerated counter, display cases, customer restroom, and a small laboratory with the opportunity to cook using hotplates.
On the same floor, there is a room where a larger laboratory than the existing one can be set up, along with a restroom and anteroom for employees.
Through the renovation carried out in the early '90s, our restaurant has preserved the charm of originality.
The authentic and captivating entrance gate anticipates the marvel of the palace.
The interiors, charming and surprising, tell stories through original vaulted ceilings, immersing you in an experience where every detail has its touch of authenticity and history.
The current management is family run and offers the possibility of training if needed and requested by buyers.
